Abbey, Nationwide, Barclaycard and Paypal were among the winners at the Card Awards last week.

The Abbey Zero credit card (www.abbey.com) won the new credit card of the year award at the Card Awards, sponsored by payment services company TSYS, last Thursday. The card won due to its range of features, which include:

Roger Lovering, managing director of credit cards at Abbey, said; “I am pleased that Abbey Zero has been recognised by the industry. It was created to offer a customer-focused valuable rewards programme.”

Other winners included:

  • Paypal Top Up card – Best new prepaid card product of the year
  • Mobile payments from Barclaycard – Best industry innovation of the year
  • John Lewis Partnership and HSBC (www.hsbc.co.uk) – Best achievement in customer service
  • Nationwide (www.nationwide.co.uk) – Most responsible credit card lending practices.

The awards, now in their fourth year, aim to recognise best practice in the card payment industry. The independent judging panel is made up of representatives from the payment card organisations, industry commentators and experts.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at CreditChoices.co.uk said: “The benefits of the Abbey Zero credit deserve to be recognised. Offering a rare 0% balance transfer fee plus 0% interest on cash withdrawals and foreign purchases - when the typical fees for these are 3% and 2.75% respectively - certainly make this card attractive.”
