OnePulse goes live on CreditChoices

(28-09-07) - The Barclaycard OnePulse card, which doubles as an Oyster card and cashless payment, for Londoners is now available at CreditChoices.co.uk

Cardholders can use OnePulse to pay for everyday items of £10 or under like newspapers, snacks and books without having to hand over their card or enter a pin, simply by tapping the card onto a reader in participating stores.

As well as being accepted for travel across the London transport network, a growing number of retailers are installing the “cashless payment” readers. Shops currently accepting OnePulse include EAT, Coffee Republic, Threshers, Books Etc and Yo! Sushi.

Elizabeth Chambers, Chief Marketing Officer, Barclaycard said: “Cashless payments are starting to become a reality. They’re fast, secure, and a fantastic way to streamline your day - no more waiting in queues to pay for small ticket items. And the OnePulse card works just like a regular credit card for larger purchases, too.”

However, Chris Eagle, CreditChoices.co.uk commercial manager, warned: “Customers need to be aware that because this is a credit card, all these little payments - for lunch and newspapers and the occasional bottle of wine - will soon add up, so people need to ensure that they always pay the balance off in full at the end of the month, or they will end up paying interest on small, everyday purchases.

“The best way to avoid paying interest on this, or any credit card, is to set up a direct debit to pay off the full balance every month,” he advised.

The Barclaycard OnePulse is being marketed to Londoners who will be able to use it as a standard Oyster card as well as a credit card. It carries an introductory offer of zero per cent interest on purchases for the first six months, then 14.9 per cent APR interest, for all purchases.

To maintain security, customers will occasionally be required to enter their pin at the cashless readers.
