You should set up a direct debit to make sure that you pay off your debt each month and avoid paying interest. Like all reward cards, any interest you pay will soon cancel out any money you've saved.

What else should I know about airmiles credit cards?

Airmiles are not an exact quantity; one airmile doesn’t equal an actual mile and airmiles on one credit card will not necessarily be the same as on another. Read the terms and conditions of any card you're thinking of signing up to - some cards charge very high rates of interest if you don’t clear your debt each month while others carry an annual fee of as much as £150.

Remember to always pay off the full balance at the end of each month. If you don’t, you'll end up paying out more in interest than you've saved on your free flights.
