BT rewards customers

BT issue 100,000th credit card

26-September-2008, By Becca Talbot becca.talbot@consumerchoices.co.uk

BT announced yesterday that it has signed up its 100,000th cardholder to the BT Credit Card, just over 12 months since it was first launched.

The BT Credit Card, launched last June, was BT’s (www.bt.co.uk) first move into the financial services market.

Since being introduced, the card has seen a wealth of success, and BT has just announced it has signed up its 100,000th customer.

Chris Hillman, general manager of financial services at BT Retail, said: “The BT Credit Card has been a big hit with our customers. We launched the card based on what customers said they wanted: a competitive credit card which rewards them for spending and gives automatic discounts on BT bills. We gave them what they wanted and 100,000 have already signed up, it’s another great success story.”

The card offers competitive rates and a unique reward scheme that automatically reduces users’ BT bills every time it is used. Since its launch, BT Credit Card customers have reduced their BT phone bills by an average of £45.

"BT has proven that its reward scheme works."

BT Credit Card accounts are linked to the holders’ BT telephone and broadband accounts; every time the card is used money is automatically deducted from their BT bills.

For the first £250 spent on the card each month, customers earn one pence for every two pounds of purchases, with no minimum level of spending required. Customers who spend more than £250 on card purchases in a month will earn double the discount on their BT bill: one penny for every additional pound spent.

BT Credit Card account holders can earn a discount off their BT bill of up to £75 per year. In addition, if more than one BT Credit Card account holder lives in the same household, they can save more - each account holder can earn a discount up to £75 per annum off the shared household BT bill.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at CreditChoices.co.uk said: “Having just signed up their 100,000th customer, BT has proven that its reward scheme works. This is one of the few cards on the market that give you something back for spending on it - and with the majority of households using a BT landline, everyone can benefit.”
